Koobeh selek (Beet soup with meatballs) - Simoosh style.

Image
FOOD For those who don't know, "Simoosh" is my mom's nickname. My mom is an amazing cook, so I love the fact that I can learn from her and try to be as good of a cook as she is. I doubt I am, but I am trying... This beet Koobeh is actually an Iraqi dish. I am not sure if how my mom makes it is the exact recipe, but who cares? it tastes amazing and much easier to make then you might think. It is basically beet soup with meatballs. amazing for when it starts getting cold outside or just if you feel like it. and since beets are one of the more healthier things out there- there you have enough reasons to get into the kitchen and get to work. promise its worth it! Lets start with the ingredients. when I cook i always like to have the recipe all ready and set up with the ingredient list and quantities in front of me (OCD much?). Ingredients: For the soup: 2 beets. washed, pilled and cut in to small cubes. 1 Onion. finely chopped and divided into two piles. a

Travel Thursdays- Thailand part I - Bangkok.

Travel Oh Thailand.  everyone who knows me knows that this is one of my favorite countries in the world. Every time I go back there it feels like home. Now I will admit, I don't mind going and seeing new places, but when I go to a place I like- I will go back there again and again. And that is what happened with Thailand! Before my first time there I was a little worried. of course you hear about how beautiful it is and how the beach  is as good as it gets, but you also hear the bad, same as for every other place in the world. I was told about polluted air, difficulties with communication because not a lot of people speak English, dirty streets with rats and lots and lots of drunk crazy people. Obviously you will be a little worried, who wouldn't?!? But then you get there... (you should see the smile on my face now as I have memories popping up). My first visit to Thailand was with a co-worker in 2010. we landed in the Bangkok international airport, and you can alr

Fix your hair!! the easiest hair treatment you should be doing.

Beauty A friend told me about Castor oil a few months ago. now what I knew about Castor oil is that our parents and their parents use to take it back in the 80's, 70's and earlier every time someone got sick. She said you put it on your hair- and miracles happen! Now, I don't know if you are like me- you play with your hair often, run your fingers through it, twirl it every few minutes. something about it that attracts my hands to play with it all the time. The problem starts when one or more of this things starts happening: 1- The weather changes and your scalp starts itching (that is not playing with it, its just scratching it         like you have lice or something) 2- You seat in front of the computer at work, twirling your cares away, and you look down at your           desk and half of your hair is there like leaves in the fall... 3- You wake up in the morning and you see hairs lingering behind on your pillow... But you know what? lets not even go to tho

Travel Thursdays- The Maldives (AKA the postcard vacation)

TRAVEL Today I want to write about one of the best vacations I have ever had. I want to start a tradition of  "Travel Thursdays" and I thought that starting out with a place I can only describe as heaven will be the way to kick this off. I will try to share as many travel destinations as I can on Thursdays, including some tips and tricks on how to make every vacation as perfect as possible. Background: The Maldive Islands are located in the Indian ocean, south- east of India and Sri lanka. It is comprised of over a 1000 island, but some of them are inhabitable. The capital of the country is called Male. its located on the biggest island in the country. Getting there: There a few airlines that have direct flights to Male (MLE is its YATA code) from mostly Europe and Asia. and a few from middle eastern countries. We flew to Mumbai in India, and from there flew with Srilankan Airlines with a quick stop in Sri Lanka. Keep in mind that after landing at Male airp

First post!

Hi, Thank you for stopping by my blog. I figured since this is my first post I should start by telling you a little bit about myself. in the next posts we can start the fun, but I think you should know a little about me so you can understand where I am coming from and the things I write about. So, lets get started... I was born in Israel, and moved to Washington DC in 2016. I met my husband in Israel, and ended up moving here for him. (when you know you know, right?) Back in Israel I used to work for the national airline, so I got to travel every now and then (I will share them for TBT traveling posts in the future). After I moved here I had a few months at home, so I used it to polish up my cooking skills and learn new recipes. My mom was born in Iran, so she knows a lot about cooking and all those little tricks you need to make your cooking extra yum. So this is the basic introductory about who I am, which I hope will help explain some of my topics and posts.
